Troubleshoot javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: handshake_failure

We use the Yet Another Commit Checker on Stash but recently its connection with Jira is failing with the message:

javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Received fatal alert: handshake_failure

Is there some logging facility that can be set on an increased level on the Stash or Jira admin interface, to troubleshoot the issue?

Versions: Jira v7.5.2, Stash v3.5.0.

You may refer to the Logging and profiling to increase the logging level for log4j on JIRA. 

As of now, I can't tell for sure what the root cause is apart from the KBs I came across here:

• JIRA unable to connect to SSL applications with handshake_failure error
• SSLHandshakeException: Received fatal alert: handshake_failure due to no overlap in cipher suite
• SSLHandshakeException - Received fatal alert - handshake_failure (FishEye specific)

Is it possible for you to share a more detailed log entry so we can dig deeper into the issue before we decide the next step moving forward? Additionally, were there any changes done to the SSL certificate / configuration recently?
