Time in status reports

I have been having some tough time in finding out the logic or the query to find out the time in status in jira reporting. I know there are many paid plugins but trying to find out if jira has any inbuild functions or example queries that i could use to pull a report of data that shows how long a story or task sat in a status. i am still searching and need some suggestions. Will gettime() work for this extract.

You can use our Status History add-on (free) which will give you information about issue statuses and time for each of them.
