Syncing Global Field Between Company-Managed Software and Product Discovery Projects

I have two projects in my Jira instance:

  1. A Company-managed software project.
  2. A Product Discovery project.

Both projects use a global custom field called "Customers"(labels type), which is properly configured in both.

My goal is to synchronize the "Customers" field so that when it is updated in the Product Discovery project, the changes are reflected in the Company-managed software project. However, I am encountering some unexpected behavior and inconsistencies when attempting to sync these fields between the two projects.

Could you please provide guidance on the best way to achieve this synchronization? Additionally, are there any known limitations or special configurations required for syncing fields across these project types?

Hi @Bar Azgad 

Do you want to update the Software Project issues which are linked to Jira Product Discovery  (JPD) Idea issue as "delivery tickets":

GIVEN a JPD Idea exists
AND it has linked delivery tickets in a Software Project
WHEN the Customers field changes in the JPD Idea
THEN update the linked delivery tickets to have the same value(s) in their Customers field

In that case, you could use automation rules with multiple-project scope to update the issues, covering these cases:

  • when the field is updated in the Idea, synch the values
  • when a new issue is linked to the Idea, synch the values
  • when an issue is unlinked from the Ideas, do ???
  • when an Idea is deleted, do ???

 

Please note well: there is no uniqueness check for Software Project issues linked to JPD Ideas, and so the same issue could be linked to multiple Ideas.  Consider what you want to do if that happens.

Though they're both global fields, are they the same one (e.g. custom field id)?

Yes, but they don't sync. If I add a customer to the Product Discovery project, it doesn't get updated in the Company-managed software project.

I just tried and they're sync with label values:

  1. Add a custom field called Customers of Label type;
  2. Add this global field from Jira projects to JPD project;
  3. Add this field to JSW project screen;

the global field doesn't work.. I added a value in Customer and it doesn't update in the project/ tried to do it for both directions
