Sub-tasks in next-gen project aren't assigned to task assignee automatically

Tal Levi November 25, 2019

Sub-tasks in next-gen project aren't assigned to task assignee automatically - It's assigned to the default assignee, and it would make more sense to just assign it to the task owner.

It's annoying to have to enter each sub-task separately and change it, and bulk change doesn't take any less type.

Is this going to be fixed / changed in the near future? Is there a hack to change it now?

Hello Tal,

Thank you for reaching out.

Indeed, Jira Next-gen does not have the functionality to copy fields from parent to sub-task issues. In fact, the Next-gen template was designed for those users who felt overwhelmed by the complexity of Jira Classic template and requested a simpler option, straight to the point with fewer options of customization.

That being said, we agree with you that the option to copy fields from parent issues would be very useful in next-gen, and that's why we created the following feature request:

Create Next-gen rule to copy parent fields in sub-tasks

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

For now, the Automation for JIRA app provides you with the ability to copy parent fields to sub-tasks in Next-gen projects. You just need to install the app and configure the rule below:

P.S: Automation for JIRA does not have any cost for installation and provide you with 300 free executions per month. If you are going to use more than this, you will need to upgrade for the paid version.

Let us know if this information helps.
