You should be able to go into any of the affected stories in JIRA, then look in the All tab to see who or what moved them over.

Went into 3 stories and viewed the all tab. No one had changed the status today. This seemed to be a project wide change as all stories. Any story that was in "Open", is now listed as "Code Review Open". It almost seems like a JIRA application change. I tried changing stories to "In progress" and back to "open". There is still an option to select "Open" but the status shows Code Review Open.

Sounds like someone changes the status name. Go into your workflow and check the Status name there. Instructions on working with workflows can be found at: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Configuring+Workflow

Full context: I was in the backlog and noticed that all of the stories that have yet to be consumed have the status of ‘code review opened’. Do you know why this is showing this way and when all of these were changed from ‘open’ to ‘code review opened’?
