Showing stories nested under an epic in the backlog

I have a board based on the following filter: project in (CS, DEV, OT, VM) AND issuetype in (standardIssueTypes(), subTaskIssueTypes(), Bug, Epic, Spike, Story, Task) AND status = Backlog ORDER BY Rank

I was hoping the filter would bring Epics into the backlog in a logical way. However, if I link a story to an epic the story disappears from the backlog completely and only the Epic is shown. I've previously seen stories nested under epics in the backlog but that is not happening. Anyone managed to do this, or can spot an error in my filter perhaps?

I'm trying to display stories nested under an epic in our BACKLOG. Is this what you are looking to do as well, Debbie? If so, were you able to find a way to do this?
