Set default watchers for a project

Arthur June 7, 2012

Is there a way to set default watchers for project issues? I know that creator of an issues automatically becomes a watcher of that issue. Is there a possibility to have every new issue in a project assigned default watchers (say, project manager, tech lead, etc.)?

I solved this by creating a new Project Role called "Watcher", adding that to all events in our Notification Scheme, and then adding people to the "Watcher" role in specific projects as necessary.  This is more flexible than using the "Project Lead" field.

This "Sort of" solves the problem.  This thread was specifically opened for automatically being added as a watcher by default.  Your solution achieves something similar but the person is not added as a watcher.  The person is simply notified of everything without being an actual watcher on the issue in JIRA.

Since it is JIRA OnDemand, you can't add any plugins and hence overriding standard functionality is not an options.

But you should be able to achieve the same behavior by adding project lead etc in the notifications.

Create default Watchers for Project which is effective automatically at the creation of each task of that project:

1. Fist have all the people added to your project by:

>> Project Settings >> People >> add users as required

2. Then add default users from the people you have added in the project:

>> Project Settings >> Automation >> Create rule (find: Right top corner) >> Select the trigger: Issue created (or you can any other trigger as required) >> Save >> click - Add component >> New Action >> Type: "Watcher" in All action search box >> select: Manage watchers - it comes after search >> Click : Add these watchers - select all the people you want to give this viewing privilege >> Save >> Click: Rule details >> Give a name to rule >> Save >> Click: Rule details >> Click: Publish rule at top right corner.
