I need to make some JIRA changes and I don't want users in the system while I do it.

Is there a way to set JIRA into single-user mode so only the sysadmin can access?

  1. Create a new group called 'single-user', and add only yourself to it.
  2. Go to JIRA Administraton --> Global Permissions
  3. Scroll to the bottom, and under 'Add Permission', grant 'JIRA Users' permission to 'single-user' group.
  4. Under JIRA Permissions, find 'JIRA Users' permission.
  5. Delete 'jira-users' group.

Now, only you will be able to log in.

Reverse the same when you want to get JIRA back to normal operation.

If you prefer not to change JIRA permissions, you may try this approach: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Preventing+users+from+accessing+JIRA+during+backups
