Service Desk 2.1: IMAP-Message rejected?!

We're currently evaluating JIRA with Service Desk 2.1

Unfortunately, the Exchange-IMAP connection says

Effectively: "The message has been rejected (Signup is not currently available)"

The system is set to public mode. What could be the problem?

Oh, I just see that the portal itself has a setting for signup, too. My fault.

But: how to make JIRA pick up older messages in the inbox?
