Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to configure JIRA that when a ticket is logged with a specific dropdown value that an automatic email is sent to a user e.g. if a ticket with a severity dropdown value of 'business critical' an email is sent to myself.
I've done a bit of reading around and cannot find anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use the Script Runner Plugin and it's builtin post functions to get this functionality. There is an example matching your scenario in the documentation.
