Running database setup on RHEL 6.4 returns error 'You cannot perform an import with an invalid validation result'

I've seen a similar KB article with an error message from a Windows 2008 server. However, that article is incomplete for my issue.

The database has been removed and recreated several times, but I can't see what else might be missing here. Please help.

Traceback looks like so:

javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: You cannot perform an import with an invalid validation result.

My password had an '\' in it. Removing this fixed the error. There is a jira issue on this exact thing with the specified workaround of only using '.' and '_' in password. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-27796
