There is a new plugin for Server: Rich Text Editor for JIRA. Cloud users can use this Chrome extension.

This is amazing, Grzegorz! Atalssian should market this extension a lot more as it's taken me way too long to find it.

Do you have any suggestions on how to copy/paste from other applications and retain formatting by any chance?

I have published a WYSIWYG Add-On for JIRA Cloud. Feel free to check it out wink

According to Gary Hodgson's page, Tiny MCE is no longer supported and he writes "Please do not use this for any version of Jira as any upgrade or system change may result in the plugin not working"

Is WYSIWYG going to be part of Jira as a standard? This is an absolute necessity.

Maybe it's time to close this one out, since it seems like this was addressed some time ago

This sucks hard.

One of the great things is to have ALL the task descriptions in one place, and not have to refere to emails and such.

A friendly tip for a work around is to create a good doc and link to that (and make sure all your Jira users have access to the docs). This way you can do ritch text formatting and insert images ect.

Thumbs down for not supproting this ritch text editor.

This is tragic. The request for WYSIWYG is nearly 10 years old, and the response from Atlassian several days ago is 'There is also JEditor, a commercial plugin on the Atlassian Marketplace... we will not be addressing this feature in the next 12 months'

I can understand it - while some users want a rich-text editor, most are happy-ish with wiki markup - simple, fast and usually good enough for entering the odd few sentences (remember it's an issue tracker, not an authoring/documentation system). Although there's some demand for it, there's a LOT more demand for all sorts of other improvements. So I suspect this is quite low on Atlassian's list...

To be honest, I can't see how anyone can be happy with wiki markup. Accepting/tolerant of it like low-level chronic pain maybe, but happy?

We are not using this for documentation purposes. Jira is issue tracking AND project management. But even as an issue tracker, the need for complex formatting is there - and it has been provided! All I'm asking for is a GUI front end that would handle the markup, rather than having to enter all the markup by hand.

The thing is we all know this is possible. Other vendors have already done this, that's why there's JEditor. There used to be TinyMCE for free, but that plugin is dead. We would consider JEditor but it's (1) very expensive and (2) not guaranteed to be supported forever.

Look, it might be my own bias, but to me, wiki markup is primitive. It's the horse and buggy in the age of the automobile :)

Hi,

I am not sure how your field configuration look like but if you change the renderer for a text field (e.g. Description) to Wiki Style Renderer you will get a lot more formatting capabilities.

See https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Configuring+Renderers for more details!

Rgrds,

// Svante

ps. The same doc for OnDemand: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/AOD/Configuring+Renderers

But that one is not for Jira on demand? It says: "Not for OnDemand'.

On the page https://confluence.atlassian.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=315326753&from=PQIYDw is no on demand WysiWiG text editor?

Correct. OnDemand has a limited and fixed list of available plugins. That is not one of them.

There is no alternative editor in OnDemand, you'll have to wait until the middle of the year when plugins v3 come out (which might let you add it, but I don't know), or move to a hosted version.

I've published one for JIRA On-Demand: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/simple-edit
