Require time tracking on tasks and sub-tasks issue

JBennett November 14, 2017
Hi. I'm currently in the process of implementing time tracking in JIRA and scratching my head a bit.

We have a required to require that any assignee logs work to a task and any associated sub-tasks. The issue I have is users are raising parent task with set hours (e.g. 80hrs) then creating sub-tasks to break down the parent task (e.g. 4 sub-tasks with 20hrs each).

When the overall task is completed we end up with 40hrs logged but 80hrs estimated.

Is there any solution to this? Ive managed to only estimate on parent and reconfigure sub-tasks to prevent estimations but enforce time logging, and allow that to roll up. However to close the main task I still have to enter 0.1m as logging is a required field. I could make it an optional field but in many cases the parent task may not have sub-tasks and still needs time tracking enforced.

Can someone help as im not sure how to resolve this issue
Thanks
