Reporters from the Atlassian directory (with no Jira license)

Valentin Florea May 30, 2023

Hello,

Is there a way, for Jira issues, to add in the reporter field for any of all users from the Atlassian directory, whether they have or do not have a Jira license assigned?

Scenario: IT helpdesk wants to assign a new issue to a non-Jira user, just for tracking purposes, and the non-Jira user to receive email notifications with updates on the topic.

Thanks,

Hi @Valentin Florea ,

I'm afraid it's not possible, a non-Jira user cant work on the issue.

What you read here is possible

I suggest creating a Custom field "External Assignee" and fill in that on every issue with the external user or email. It can even be multiple select options. Then you'll have the real Assignee inside JIRA that controls the "External Assignees" and transitions issues or contacts them to keep track of them.

Or you can create and add a specific component to add those issues so you could filter them or exclude them.

And you would have to write his progress, work hours, etc. and it would be under your name.

Hi Manoj,

We don't intend to have the reporters actively working on the Jira issues/tickets.

We want their names for tracking purposes, as I've described in my reply to John.

Hi Valentin,

I think you meant Reporter in your question details and not for them to work on the issues. Try adding the user as a Customer on the project (entering their email  as the user).

Hi John,

That's correct; just to add them in the reporter field, no work on the issues, not even comments.

Short example - your user is synced in the Atlassian cloud directory, but no Jira license is assigned to your user.

IT helpdesk wants to set your user on the reporter field for an issue they've created for you/your request - e.g. they're replacing your laptop, and for tracking, they want to have your user on the reporter field.

I assume Customer is a good idea, but I was exploring a way to bring the existing users from the Atlassian directory available for the reporter field. We were using this feature on the Jira server :)
