Reporter is automatically becoming a watcher

Since I upgraded to JIRA 5.0 when somone creates an issue they are automatically added to the watcher list. This is messing up my notification screen because watchers should get e-mails on updates but the reporter should not. Is there anyway to change this?

Thanks for the quick response. I missed seeing it on the individual profile but want to disable for all so I will use the script.

I think you are on JIRA 5.1? See the new Auto watch feature. You can turn it off in the profile.
