Okay I've answered my own question by finding a relevant help-guide:
After viewing this article, I'd like to know how can I update my JIRA account to show the proper figure for "Zendesk Ticket Count" on each JIRA esclated issue from Zendesk *without* having to manually update all tickets?
I've answered this question again - unfortunately there's no way to backfill the Zendesk ticket counts on each JIRA issue once this has all been setup.
This is not ideal - hoping someone from JIRA product team can share insight on developments or what has been done to address this that I may not have found.
