Removing User extremely labourintensive

is there a way to remove users from jira, without haviing to manually reassign everything.

im trying to remove a user accoung of an ex colleague, but it wants me to manually chage all assigned items, items the acoount is project lead of, items reported with that account, and issue comments. is there a way to delete a user without havin to spend hours reopening issues and changing assignees(with bulk edit)

The general advice here is "don't delete users".

If you delete users, you are deleting potentially useful historical information. Jira stops you from doing it precisely because it's trying to preserve your audit information.

When someone leaves, remove them from all their groups and roles and then forget them. It takes a few seconds, preserves your historical data, secures the account and stops them consuming a licence.

You probably want to set their email address to a /dev/null account to prevent bounces and I usually stick (inactive) into their display name, just to save having to explain "yes, they left" to other users. Some sites also have a group called something like "users who have left" as well.

Of course, there are situations where a user should be deleted (duplicate accounts is the obvious one), but these should be quite rare.

In OnDemand you need to also remove Application Access to free the license seat, but that's as simple as unchecking a box.

We never change the assignee for closed items. that is historical infomation. That would make it easy to use bulk edit to change the open ones.

And don't delete that user, it will break things. Simply set the user inactive (it won't count towards your license anymore)
