Redmine 1.2.1 migration to Jira

I've read the information on

regarding migration of Redmine data to Jira.

It states that you should use this this plugin only with Redmine 1.3+

We're currently using Redmine 1.2.1, and was wondering what the best way to move forward with the migration.

-Is it better to upgrade Redmine, and then start the migration?

-Should I used an older version of the importer listed here,

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.atlassian.jira.plugins.jira-importers-redmine-plugin/versions

and if so, which one?

If you can ignore the features / fixes from the old version of the add on to the newest version, you should be able to uninstall the current add on and reinstall the older add on. Else, upgrade your Redmine.
