Questions about JIRA

Joseph Craig June 9, 2013

We are looking to set up an Atlassian Enterprise JIRA instance to support up to 5000 users. I have several "pre sales" type questions.

We plan to do this in a Windows Server 2012 environment, and would like some estimates of the hardware resources that we will need. Can anyone offer advice regarding:

  • number of processors,
  • appx disk space,
  • memory, etc.

Does JIRA run OK to run in a hyper-v environment?

I'm also a little confused regarding databases. Does JIRA install its own database, or does it require somthing to be be installed already.

It requires an already installed database. It runs ok under hyper-v. Linux and Postgres is preferred though.

Sure you have 5000 users, but how many concurrent users? That's more important. Need to estimate how many users using it at the same time.

This page talks about the basic server requirements: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Server+Hardware+Requirements+Guide

If you are using Windows then probably your best database option would be MS Sql but Postgresql, Mysql and ORacle are all options.

The above looks like a page for Confluence Requirements. The following would be for JIRA:
