Question Regarding Jira's Oauth for User validation

I want to develop an android app for my company jira using atlassian jira's rest api,i want to use the provided Oauth authentication

mechanism for it,I was able to follow the mentioned instructions for OAuth provided in this url(https://developer.atlassian.com/display/JIRADEV/JIRA+REST+API+Example+-+OAuth+authentication)

and i was successfull in getting the access token for it (I set up my environment with a standalone version of JIRA).

I want my app to check for valid users as they provide their username and password,they need to be validated before showing their timelog,tasks etc.

Can i validate the username and paswword entered with OAuth.

Please help me on this,If i'm not clear with my question please reply back
