Projects and teams - Best practices

Paul JB Matthews July 28, 2013

After some thought and oppinions about how best to use projects in JIRA. We have several devlopment teams working on the same product offering. The teams stay together but may move from project to project all within the same product.

We have been running projects as teams (e.g. Team X) and the teams manages the wall of work and backlog.

Another project is starting up and they would like a seperate project to start getting the backlog together.

So my question is around how do we transfer that into a working team project:

  • Move the team to a different project (but then we lose the velocity of the team etc)
  • Move the backlog into the team project
  • Change the Team wall to point to a different project

Thoughts would be appreciated..

Thanks
Paul

If you do not want to lose velocity, then you could include the project into the boards filter. But this will in turn cause your backlog to increase. However, you can also use quick filters to filter our issues that you dont want to see.

Thanks Timothy. This is what we have gone with and added in a flag so we can filter the other project to only the work we are working on. Works like a charm!
