If a project key is renamed, the attachments are still retained in a folder with the old key. When we import the project into a different JIRA instance using Project Import, does it expect the attachments in a folder named after the new key or the old?

Looking at this documentation it seems that after import the attachments will be searched in a folder named by the new key

After introducing renamable projetc keys JIRA always puts the attachment directory named by the original project key, but when you import since the project key history is lost then the attachments will be looked up in a directory named again by the original key which should in that case be the latest project key.

For reference see com.atlassian.jira.issue.attachment.DefaultAttachmentStore

If you make a simple test you'll see confirmation of that. The origina project key is used only during projetc import to import attachments, and after the import finished all the attachments are put in the JIRA attachments directory unser the new project key.

Just performed a test. The attachments need to be placed in the import/attachments folder named with the old project key from the source. When imported, it will be placed in a folder with the new project key.
