Product Owner acceptance process

Lars Polling September 29, 2013

What would be the best way to visualize the Product Owner acceptance process in JIRA for a Scrum team?

  1. Adding a state to the (Sprint) workflow (not preferable)
  2. Log Accepted as a post-function on an existing state
  3. Use a sign-off addon
  4. Don't process this in JIRA
  5. Anything else, alternative solution

Looking forward to your view/discussion.

Hi Lars,

This depends on many things, but mainly comes down to:

  1. Do you need Product Owner acceptance to continue work?
  2. What are the length of your sprints?
  3. Can the Product Owner be Part of the team?

We do have a field for product owner in all our issues but this is because we have a range of work from sprints / larger projects, to support / ad-hock work (can be as much as a 12 man month project or as little as standalone 1-2 hour tasks). For the small tasks, we inform the stakeholder after it is fixed. For the big projects, we integrate stakeholders and product owners in the sprint retrospectives and product owners in each daily stand-up so they essentially become part of the team.

So for us, it depends on the work. If you need Product Owners acceptance (1) and / or sprints are longer than a week - so potential of a lot of wasted work due to late feedback (2) you need the Product Owner as part of the team. If you have a different situation in mind though, let me know the specifics!

Thanks!
