Problems with Filter in JIRA since the update

I have just been moved on to the new JIRA version and the Filters / Search field to not seem to be working properly.

I have selected myself in the Assignee bit and was expecting all stories linked to myself would only be shown, but that is not the case - instead it still shows all stories as before:


Surely it does not require an input in the Search Field as well?

Sorry, I am not sure I understand.  Is this the filter that controls the board?  Or is this a quick filter that would normally have appeared as a toggle option on that board?

Would you mind sharing with us the syntax of your JQL for both the board filter and/or the quick filter so we can try to better understand this concern.
