Prevent "JIRA is Locked " Errors

daniel_f October 13, 2013

What do you do to prevent this?

My idea is to delete the lock file automatically (if it exists), before the jira start.

Could this cause any problems?

Hi, one possibility is unclean shutdown. Have you checked the logs for what errors there may be on shutdown?

Yes, it's happening because of unclean shutdowns (our playground server gets often too hot and shuts down automatically)

ATM we're only evaluating jira and stash, that's why we got only the 10$ package and installed it on the test server" and not the production machine.

The unclean shutdowns need to be fixed. Otherwise not much can be done. A server that keeps shutting down doesn't seem right, even if a development server.

Do not just remove it automatically - it's there to stop you damaging your installation by running two installations simultaneously. You need to find out why it's hanging around and deal with whatever that problem is.

Which version of Jira are you running? There is a problem that Jira takes a long time to shutdown and it could leave lock file if an outside influence kills the Jira process.
