Is it possible to pre-populate fields with order numbers?
We want to implement service desk. Within the ticket we want to be able to have a order number field for associating work-orders. The field should automatically generate a number based on ticket being created.
What's wrong with keeping it simple and using the JIRA issue key?
after reviewing the requirements from the team I realize they just need to use the issue number as reference. Thanks, KISS works all the time (Keep It Simple Stupid)

There are good reasons for other numbers to be used sometimes, so I was fishing for a reason really. But, exactly as you say - if you can keep it simple, that's good
