Parents from different board on backlog

Tomasz Osik October 11, 2024

Hi all,

My question might be daft, or even stupid. However... i'll ask anyway. Got Project 1 with all Parents. When issue comes, parent is assigned accordingly (manually) and then ticket is processed further.

Once it will reach certain status it then gets cloned to different board, parent included, and lands in Backlog.

Issue:

* While story sits in backlog i cannot filter it by parent\epic using standard Jira functionality

* Once issue lands on kanban board, there is no problem

It is important that backlog is separated from rest of the kanban board.

Any Ideas?

Hello @Tomasz Osik

Are the parent and child task, including the task created by cloning, all in the same project?

What type of issue is the Parent issue? What type of issue is the child issue?

What is the project type? Get that information from the Type column of the View All Projects page under the Projects menu.

How are you trying to filter the backlog? Can you provide a screen image that is the unfiltered backlog, pointing out the issue that is missing when you apply the filter, and then another image of the backlog after you've applied the filter? Also can you provide an image of the missing issue to the extent that we can see that issue's key and that it is indeed connected to the parent issue (i.e. show the breadcrumbs at the top of the issue view).

Hi Trudy,

Parents are just linked to Project A, does not exist in Project B. Parent is an epic, and child is a story. Both projects are Company managed projects.

Project A have all epics

ProjectB has own epics, currently in process of removing those.

I would need to be able to sort by EPIC in backlog in Project B. It is possible to do on Kanban Board, just not via backlog.

Hello @Tomasz Osik

What is the filter for the Kanban board for Project B?

Based on my observations, if the board filter does not include Project A, then the Epics from Project A will not be available for filtering on the Project B Kanban Backlog screen, but they are available for filtering on the Project B Kanban Board screen.

I have not been able to find a bug or change request related to this is Atlassian's public backlog. You may want to open a support case directly with Atlassian to get more information on this scenario:
