I'm using Jira On-Demand for User management.
In Confluence, under "People," I appear about six times and the Atlassian System Administrator appears four times. I've rebuilt both Jira and Confluence Indexes multiple times following the advice found here:
http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/Duplicates+in+the+People+Directory
Other solutions suggested here required SQL access, which I don't believe is available with On-Demand.
Anyone know how to fix this issue?
On-Demand users need to request Atlassian support to resolve the issue.
(I guess they rebuild the index, which On-Demand administrators can not do. Also, this may be different since they transistioned to a new user-management interface.)
We have this issue documented. You can try rebuilding the search index (Administration > Context Indexing). If that doesn't work, submit a request at support.atlassian.comand reference this KB article:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/Duplicates+in+the+People+Directory
Support will work with you to arrange about 15 minutes of maintenace so they can appy the fix.

I have the same issue...unfortunately, Content Indexing does not seem to apply for On Demand
