Hi users are not receiving email if they use gmail accounts for notifications. Could you please tell me why?

Some things to check out:

  1. Have you checked the notification scheme? (Should they be receiving notifications?)
    1. You can use the "Notification Helper" to help check this
  2. Are your email settings set up properly (is the system truly sending email? You can check byseeing if it is sending email to a non-gmail account)
  3. If 1) and 2) are fine, and it is isolated to just gmail users, have they checked their spam accounts? Have they added the email address that JIRA sends email as as a contact in gmail?

The notification helper would definitely be the best place to start.

Yep, your mailserver does not currently permit your JIRA to send email through it. You should contact your central mailserver admin to allow your JIRA (usually by IP) to send mail, then things will start working.

Can you search the JIRA logs for the user's email, maybe there is an error message that could explain the problem further? Check the atlassian-jira-outgoing-mail.log and atlassian-jira.log

Find the log location at <JIRA_Address>/secure/admin/ViewSystemInfo.jspa. It is under the File Path location.

Once you find the logs open them and try to search for the problem email address.

Have you tried using JIRA to Send A Test Email directly to those addresses, and the result is? If you can do this you will at least know that there is no problem with your outbound delivery. Test to another address also, not on gmail. If gmail is still an issue, talk to your mailserver admin, perhaps there are some blacklisting rules at work?
