Multiple applications using ports 80 and 443

Aaron Catt January 3, 2018

Hello,

I have been tasked with setting up service desk, confluence and software to all run on ports 80 and 443. Am I right in thinking that I will need to configure them on separate servers to complete this?

Many thanks

Aaron

Technically, yes, but there are other options.

A port can only be used by one service at a time.  So if you run Confluence and Jira on the same server, they will need two different ports to run them on (Service Desk runs inside Jira, it's not a separate service)

When you do that, you end up with urls with ports buried in them, so yes, separate servers are needed.

But, it's easy to relocate these with a proxy.  Run Confluence on port 8090, Jira on 8080, and then run a proxy that listens on 80 and 443 and proxies connections to those two ports.
