Hello,
we are running 2 JIRA instances. One with release 4.4.1 and one with 5.1. We are planning to move all projects from the old one to the new one. But the configuration is very different. Here are some facts:
Version 4.4.1 5.1
Roles 11 7
Projects 55 26
Issue Types 25 14
Issue Type Schemes -- 5
Workflows 48 8
Workflow Schemes 23 4
Screens 89 12
Screen Schemes 51 8
Issue Type Scr. Schemes 26 3
Custom Fields 98 11
Field Configurations 36 2
Field Config. Schemes 21 1
Statuses 22 21
Issue Sec. Schemes 9 --
Notification Schemes 12 2
Permission Schemes 27 3
Shared Filter 599 87
We want to keep the new configuration. What will happen with the data from the old one, when we import the projects into the new one without creatingworkflows, screens, custom fields and so on? Will they get lost or mapped to another field?
As an option, we consider to import the old projects as an CSV-file, but I couldn’t find any information about supported fields. So which fields can be imported by a CSV-file?
Best regards
Jo
Hi Jo,
If you try importing your projects from the old instance into the new one, with the new one not having the configurations of the old one, the import will fail. Importing projects are actually quite tricky, with a lot of things to look out for : version, users, groups, custom fields, workflows, etc. You can find a documentation regarding this here : https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Restoring+a+Project+from+Backup
I'm not sure how it will work about for CSV import though.
Cheers,
Joe
Hi Joe,
thanks for your answer. With this information, it doesn’t make sense to copy a project to a newer version of JIRA. If we have to update the old one to the same version, we can keep the old one.
Best regards
Jo
