Move Jira to another server, but server not running

Edv Raml February 4, 2020

Hi,

I want to install Jira on a new server. Actually I installed Jira on a windows server. But the service does not start anymore. The server is very old.

So I want to install jira on a new server but use the original database.

Is this possible? What is the best way to migrate a non running instance to a new server?

Best regards

Dear @Edv Raml ,

when the database is not located on the same server, you can just copy the whole application tree to another server and just start it again. Of cause the DB should be accessible from new server.

You need transfer both application directory and $JIRA_HOME.

When Java is not part of the application (bundled version) you need also to have Java installed on the new server.

Have a look at this link for details on Windows installations.

So long

Thomas
