Migrating JIRA to another Server with another Database

Gennadiy March 3, 2016

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Migrating JIRA to Another Server

My question about  "3.3 Connect the new version of JIRA to a new, empty database"

Is it possible, connect to other type of database and then migrate data from old database to new, or both databases should be the same type?

Is it possible migrate data from two different jiras into one ?

For instance we have Jira 3.3.8 and 4.3.4, and we decide to keep all on Jira 7

You'd have to get them all on the same version of JIRA first. Upgrade 3.3.8 to 7, upgrade 4.3.4 to 7 and then migrate both to a new JIRA 7 instance, or import one of the upgraded instances into the other.

You can't go direct to 7 from 3.3.8, you'd need to upgrade that to 4.4.5 first and then to 7. I think 4.3.4 can go straight to 7. More details at https://confluence.atlassian.com/jira/upgrading-jira-185729508.html and https://confluence.atlassian.com/jira/upgrading-jira-manually-235670607.html

Hi, you can migrate to a different type of DB, see https://confluence.atlassian.com/jira/switching-databases-185729500.html for details.
