Mohammad Asif-IT April 26, 2021

Dear Technical Team,

I would like to seek your help in migrating JIRA Application server and JIRA DB Server to a brand new Hardware server.

I am having currently JIRA Running on Linux(DB) and JIRA Application(JIRA Core+ JIRA SD+ JIRA SW) on Windows. We are planning to migrate it to Windows2016 server.

Can you please guide me with the Step by Step procedure to migrate JIRA Application to a Brand new server. I read your document and a bit confused.

What I want is a new and a parallel setup with out disturbing the existing Live environment. Once we get the UAT Done from the users we will then switch the DNS to point to the new server.

Kindly help.

Rgds,

Asif

It you have your new hardware setup for both the server and DB then you will just need to follow this guide.  https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/migrating-jira-applications-to-another-server-938846962.html#:~:text=To%20migrate%20Jira%20to%20a,directory%20and%20all%20existing%20customizations.

Basically you will want to do the following:

  1. Backup old instance (https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/backing-up-data-938847673.html)
  2. Setup new hardware (I usually make sure that the new hardware can not talk to the old hardware, firewall)
  3. Download the same version of Jira as was installed on the old server
  4. Install the same version of the Jira Software on the new hardware
  5. Restore backup
  6. Validate
