Manually adding another approver doesn't change issue's status

Is there a way to automatically change issue's approval status from Approved to X approval needed also as issues's status back to Waiting approval when adding another approver. Currently issue's status remains the same, also as no request sent to approve issue to added person.

It seems to be better to create a subtask for each approver and allow transition of parent issue only when all subtask are resolved.

However end-user could still enter wrong approver, who possibly will approve anything. I can manually transit issue back to Waiting approval with correct person selected, however I believe that there is an automatic way to change status on editing approver list.
