Making a custom field uneditable in my JIRA

Hi,

I am new to JIRA.I have imported a project and want to make a imported field uneditable as it is a reference for the project .It is not needed for the projects that will be created by the users.This field is to be just imported and displayed.I am able to create the field,import and display it.However it is now editable.I dont want this field to be edited.What can I do to make this happen.I am a greenhorn and the previous queries on this topic were looking alien.I would appreciate any help in simple steps.

remove the field from edit screen and add that field to view screen only!
