List View JIRA Product Discovery description

Fred R October 7, 2024

Right now, there seems to be no way to add the idea "Description" as a column in a List View. That would be very helpful to see a bit more of an idea before clicking on it.

Hi @Fred R

welcome to the community!

If you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. Of course, this all works for issue descriptions, too:

As you can see above, you can easily sort and filter by the issue description, and also use it across JXL's advanced features, such as support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

I should add that Jira Product Discovery doesn't currently show apps in it's project sidebar (we're working on this with Atlassian), however since every sheet in JXL is powered by a JQL statement, you can pull in issues of any project(s), of course including JPD projects.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hi @Fred R , welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Descriptions can be very long, I know mine are ;)

You can always add new field like 'Short description' or 'Public description' to summarize what's in the idea and show it in views

Thanks.
We did this, but we end up with two fields to maintain for an idea.

But since description can indeed be long, it should only show the first lines I suppose
