It seems possible to run JIRA Service Desk and JIRA Software on separate servers AND share data. But, "you'll need to find/write a system to get them to talk to each other."
This comment was posted in January of 2016. I'm wondering if anyone has had success doing this since the post?
I understand that the best way to install both apps is to install one and then add the other application within application management. The use case we have for keeping them on separate servers is that we'd like to expose access to JIRA Software only on a network domain, and expose access to JIRA Service Desk to the internet.
i.e. the customer portals would be accessible over the internet on a unique subdomain. Agents needing to escalate to developers would use the "Create linked issue" feature to link to a project on our JIRA Software instance, limited to a network domain.
I've linked both instances using Application Links, but I am still unable to share data between them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I've seen a number of attempts at scripting and coding, but they're all very specific to the sites they're on.
However, have a look at the backbone sync add-on: https://www.k15t.com/software/backbone-issue-sync
