Limit Groups per User

Mojito December 22, 2014

Hi Everybody,

is there a limitation in how many groups a certain user can be? Due some "special" projects within our company, it could be, that by the end of 2015 some users may be part in 50 Groups. Is there a limitation?

The reason why we need such a high number of groups is, that some users only are allowed to view one specific project (and only assign issues to these specific user within this project etc.) So if there is a limitation, is there some kind of workaround? Are roles the better option to limited to the view of users to a specific project?

Hi Mojito,

There isn't any hard limit regarding how many groups a user can be a part of. That being said, for both performance (JIRA has to check permissions for all groups for each user, for example) and management sake, I would indeed advise on using Project Roles instead.

You can, for example, simply add the user to the 'User' role for all projects that the user should be able to see, and limit what the users in this role can do through the Permission Scheme. smile

Hi Mojito,

No. There is no such restriction. You can add as many groups to a user as you wish. smile

Please let us know if you have more questions.

Cheers!
