Let user select status when creating issue?

We're transitioning from Pivotal Tracker to JIRA OnDemand.

In Pivotal, often we'll need to add a few tickets directly to the backlog instead of the icebox. In Pivotal, you create a ticket, it's at the top of the icebox, and you can drag it effortlessly into the backlog.

In JIRA, to create an issue and assign it to a status other than the default post-creation status, you have to first create the issue, then go to another screen to search for it, open it up, and transition it. Then go back to what you were doing. We're using a Kanban board with the icebox excluded from display because its size seems to cause JIRA's javascript to freeze our browsers, not to mention being extremely unwieldy visually (somehow Pivotal makes this more manageable).

For our current workflow to make a sensible transition to JIRA without major loss of productivity, we need users to be able to set *any* status for an issue during the issue creation process. We're now set up with a simplified workflow, so status transitions are premitted between any two statuses.

I have searched Google high and low and have not been able to find a way to edit the workflow to make this possible. Please help!

Hi,

I think that you have need auto transition to assign issue to a status other than the default (status selected by user in list status).
You can do it using scripting plugin in the post-function like JJUPIN
