Kanban board: If two statuses are used in a column and an issue needs moved between them, how can it be done on the board?

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Transitioning an Issue

If there are two statuses (e.g. Analysis IP and WIP) within a Kanban column and an issue needs moved between those two statuses, is there a way to do that via the board or does it need to be done in ticket edit mode

It has to be done with standard JIRA transitions from the issue view, or standard menus, you can't do it on the board - the boards only accept transitions from column to column.

To me, that seems like a bit of a silly thing and I can't imagine the code for "accept transitions within the same column" would be hard, but Atlassian have said "won't fix" on all the requests for it
