Jira permission is not being respected

Michelle Lauer January 2, 2020

Summary

My user cannot 'flip sprints' when I feel she should be able to.

Details

As you can see in the attached screenshots, I have set her up with roles/permissions as follows:

  • User is a member of the group "Sprint Masters".
  • The group "Sprint Masters" has the project role "Sprint Master".
  • The project role "Sprint Master" has the permission to "Manage Sprints".

When I confirm my setup using the Permissions Helper feature, it says "[User] has the 'Manage sprints' permission".  See screenshot.

However, as noted in the last two screenshots, the buttons to "Close Sprint" and "Start Sprint" are grayed-out/disabled indicating the user does not have permission.

Thanks much!

I'd check two things

1. Scrum boards can pull in issues from multiple projects, so make sure the board is only pulling in issues from projects your user (or user group) can administrate.

2. On the scrum board, if you have the option to go to board> configure> general & filter, you can try adding your user/user group to the list of board administrators. (that might not unknot the lack of respect, but it may give your user the ability to stop/start sprints.)

That's it Ben!!

I recently edited the board query to also display cards from another project that we needed visibility of.

I just gave my user permissions in that project also and it all works now.

Thank you!!!
