Jira group permisions for a project

In our setup, we have user under groups and each group needs to have access to certain projects in JIRA with smilar permission.

So user 1,2,3 belong to group A and group A should be able to create issues, edit issues, add comments etc for Projects i,ii,iii

What is the best way to go about this?

I created the projects, the groups and I created one standard permission scheme. But i cant seem to assign the group scheme to a project without making it group A specific.
