Jira comments separated by state?

I have a workflow that has several states in it (5). A typical issue can accumulate quite a few comments as it moves through the flow and I'm wondering if there's anyway to filter the comments based on the state the issue was in when the comment was made? It would be easier to digest a long running list of comments if I could filter the comments made during the "Analysis" state or any other state.

Is this possible?

I would disable the current Comment issue tab panel and then create my own issue tab panel and customize some of the code.
