We are currently evaluating our small Jira and Confluence server instances and planning to move on to purchasing and new licence in the nearest future. However, with the recent announcement from Atlassian (https://www.atlassian.com/migration/key-offering-changes?tab=server-dates#important-dates) regarding licencing types support and changes we are at a crossroads and some questions arose.
So the questions are:
1) In case we now buy server licence and in a year it expires will our instances stop working/become read-only or everything will still function properly all be it with different limitations (e.g not being able to create direct Support tickets and install updates).
2) In case we buy a licence now and it expires approximately on Nov-Dec 2021 period, and we do not renew it until licence changes are fully implemented (start of 2024). What happens when we buy a new Data Center or Cloud licence? Will we be able to migrate from our outdated (by that point 2024) licence and instance to a Cloud or Data Center? Or we will have to upgrade version of our instance first? And will we be able to migrate from our instance (old and severely outdated) to Data Center or Cloud at all?
3) In case we purchase some plugins (while our licence is still active) will we be able to renew plugin licenses once our main instance licence is sort of expired? Will be able to purchase new licences?
Thank you in advance for the help!
you can still run the server, if the license is expired. you need it only for updates
now, you can buy and renew plugins licences. I don't know waht the future brings
I think there will com a lot of questions like this
