Jira Upgrade and Migration to RHEL

Asha Black August 21, 2022

We are currently using on prem Ubuntu Linux and we are moving across to on prem Red Hat Linux (RHEL) instead. We have a current on prem Jira instance of 8.22.1 but we have licences for 9.1. Therefore, we need to migrate Jira to a different OS AND we need to upgrade to latest version (all on prem). We have followed the technical information available on this but hoping for some guidance on best approach.

Option 1.

  • Configure RHEL server cluster on Jira 9.1
  • Upgrade Jira to v9.1 (8.22.1 – 9.0 – 9.1 or 8.22.1 – 9.1)
  • Shutdown Jira and backup
  • Copy data to new RHEL server cluster
  • Start-up new cluster

Option 2.

  • Configure RHEL server cluster on Jira 8.22.1
  • Shutdown Jira and backup
  • Copy data to new RHEL server cluster.
  • Start-up new cluster.
  • Upgrade Jira to v9.1 (8.22.1 – 9.0 – 9.1 or 8.22.1 – 9.1)

Has anyone got advice on which option would be better? Are there any other options available? Thank you!

Hi @Asha Black ,

welcome to the Atlassian community!

The option 2 is the best one.
