Jira - Show reason for issue transition denied

Hello everyone,

I am currently trying to set up some rules for a standard project workflow. Within this workflow (company managed projects) I have been able to restrict the transition between two status when the field "Time spent" is not greater 0. Though, this has led to some confusion, as Jira is only showing the user that they are not allowed to move an issue, but not why.

Is it possible to customize the message shown on the board so the user knows what to do/change?

Hi Jannis - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

One option would be to place a transition screen on that transition that let's them know that they must have hours > 0. 

Otherwise, you would need a 3rd party app like JMWE or ScriptRunner to set up the validation with a message.
