You are correct. That is not currently customizeable. You'd need to do it through coding in order to hide that option.

thanks for your reply.
I can create and delete the request types. And also edit the fields of the request types. But the mentioned drop down menu seems to be on top of the customer portal permanently and it is not a part of a customizeable request type
