Jira Recover from OS crash

Muzzammil Waheed April 13, 2014

Hi Everyone,

We had jira download version installed on an AWS virtual machine but it crashed due to a malware. We do have the database backup files ( SQL Server ) and the copy of the installation folder of JIRA.

Could someone help and explain how can i install JIRA on a new machine and use the existing database and folder to recover the jira installation. Also how can we migrate the jira license to the new machine / OS.

Thank you for urgent response.

Simple answer is to restore everything on the new server, just as it was on the old, and it'll work fine, barring complaining about the licence.

For the licence, when you visit your new Jira, it might complain (the server-id is set during install, but the nature of your restored data will determine whether the new one changes server-id). If the server-id does change, just nip into your atlassian account, find the server-id and change it to the new one that it will give you, and you'll get a new licence key to paste into it.
