Jira - Project Setting > Details Description Formatting

I was trying to add formatting my jira project under project settings > details > description > field.

1. Can it be done?
   1. tired *Text* to bold it the result was *Text*. the formatting wasn't utilized.

Used this and it doesn't work in this field..  am I missing some thing?

Nevermind it takes the standard html formatting.
